Birm® A8006 Filter Media – Iron & Manganese Removal for Water Filtration Systems

Birm® A8006 Filter Media ( 37lbs- 1 cubic feet) is a proven, economical solution for the removal of iron and manganese from water supplies. Designed for use in pressure and gravity-fed systems, Birm® offers high efficiency without the need for chemicals, regeneration, or costly additives.

Manufactured from a durable, lightweight material, Birm® provides long service life, low maintenance, and reliable performance in residential, commercial, and municipal water treatment applications. By promoting catalytic oxidation, it ensures effective iron and manganese filtration with minimal operating costs.

Operating Conditions & Limitations

• pH must be ≥ 6.8 for iron removal.

• For manganese removal: pH 8.0–8.5 (iron + manganese) or 8.0–9.0 (manganese only).

• Requires dissolved oxygen ≥ 15% of iron and 29% of manganese (pre-aeration recommended).

• Not suitable if H₂S (rotten egg odor), oil, or >4 ppm organics are present.

• Free chlorine must be <0.5 ppm (higher levels damage media).

• Alkalinity should be ≥ 2x combined sulfate + chloride concentration.

• Do not use polyphosphates as pretreatment.

• Manufacturer flow rate recommendations are lower than other iron media.

• Not for installation in California.
